Gorrick Spring Series Round 3

A very warm and sunny Crowthorne wood welcomed the 3rd round of the Gorrick Spring Series sponsored by Saddle Skedaddle. As usual i arrived early to watch my dad race in the Open category 1hr and 15minutes before my race starts at 2.16pm, my dad wasnt set on racing as he had a bad cold and found it a little harder than usual on a small warm up but still continued to start the race. I rode part of the course to kill some time while he was supposed to be doing his lap but he said he got 1/2 way round and felt to rough to carry on so he called it a day. 

After all the morning races Matt Craner of WDMBC/SPECIALIZED/RRP/ BEYOND MTB, gave me my sponsored team kit which consisted of a new pair of S-Works shoes,S-Works Prevail helmet and some specialized Pro Fingerless Gloves which was all really good of the Club and the sponsored shop as the value of these goods is very high. I fitted my new cleats and i got on with my warm up and just tested out the shoes to see if the cleats were in the right position which they were.


Onto my race the Sport category which started at 2.16pm with a large field again but not quite as large and as competitive as round 1 and 1 or 2 riders went up a category from last race. The race was lead out by me and my teammate Martin Turton with ryan Keynes of 1st Gear cycles on our wheel for the 1st 1/2 of the lap before he crashed just behind me and never made the gap back up. So me and Martin were on a mission for a West drayton MBC/Beyond Mtb 1st and 2nd, we continued to overtake many of the Expert riders that were still going strongly. Me and martin continued to ride with each other for most of the race lapping consistently at 19,20,20 and 20minutes for the final lap with martin attacking on the last lap and winning the race with an overall time of 1hr25minutes & 25seconds which i was 20seconds down on. I really liked the course and suits me well as i like the more explosive climbs and flat elsewhere. All in all a brilliant race for me, Martin and for the Club. Thanks Gorrick
