The 3rd round of the Southern XC series was at Crow Hill in Ringwood, i arrived early to watch my dad race in the fun category and he did quite well he got 2nd to Junior rider Liam white of VC DEAL. After my dads race Sean Scott arrived with some Specialized S-Works shoes which he was giving me as my old Shimano shoes are battered. Then my dad offered for me to use his Niner EMD 29er as i was going to ride my Kona singlespeed training bike and i snapped up the chance. My race got underway at 12.30 and we had an unexpected change in laps from 3 to 4 laps as the organisers said the course was too short for us Juniors to do 3 laps. I had a very bad start and didnt get clipped in but eventually got clipped in and was 2nd last position and had to fight my way through the pack before there 1st climb where i sat behind Jack Spicer of VC Deal. Then me and Ryan Keynes made a break from the little pack and got away and stayed out there for nearly 3 laps until he suffered a snapped chain which was a dissapointment for me as we worked together to pull away from the riders behind. My teamate Martin Turton was in 2nd position after the 1st lap but was feeling ill so he was forced to retire. I rode 1/2 of the 3rd lap and the 4th lap fending of the riders behind and finished in 3rd position a few minutes ahead of 4th. I was very happy with my result and this has opened my eyes to 29er bikes and i am still deciding whether to buy a 29er.
