Southern XC Finale Round 5 - Frith Hill

Last Sunday the 1st of July saw the final round of the Southern XC which took place at Frith Hill in Deepcut. My Junior race was at 12.30 and i arrived at around 11.15am with spells of rain coming and going with sunny intervals. I signed on and checked out the start and finish of the lap, 20minutes before the start of my race the heavens opened and it rained hard and didnt want to stop until about 20minutes into our race. I got a good start follwing Sam stean with martin turton on my tail, the rain made most places of the course very slippy especially with my prietty much slick rear tyre which made finding grip even harder. Me and Sam continued to push the pace on dropping the rest of the field with us 2 out front to fight it out. We didnt want to drop the pace and get caught during the later part of the race. With Sam doing most of the pacing with me coming to the front now and then to greater our lead out front. Our lap times were very consistent with 20minute laps for all 4 laps. During our last lap the course was starting to dry out which made things a little better, during the last 1/2 a lap we were just watching each others every move waiting for the other to make an attack and it was Sam who responded with me follwing close behind. He attacked on the fireroad climb before you head back into the tight twisty section in the woods. We were still together with about 1/2 a mile to go and he attacked once again on the last little climb coming back into the arena and i did my best to hang on but he went onto win the race with a 3second lead. A very good race with Sam stean taking the top step of the Podium me on the 2nd step and Martin Turton taking 3rd . We worked well together to gain a large gap on the rest of the field with 3rd coming in over 5 minutes down of me and Sam.
